Equipment

  • Large ziplock bag or mixing bowl with lid
  • Small spray bottle with water
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Freezer
  • Paper towels

Ingredients

  • Basic:
  • 2 –3 lbs green seedless grapes firm ones are best
  • 1 box sugar-free lime jello powder or lemon for a twist
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 –2 tbsp citric acid optional but key for true sour candy effect
  • Optional Add-Ins:
  • 2 tsp lime zest
  • 1 packet unsweetened Kool-Aid watermelon or lemon
  • 1 –2 tsp crushed freeze-dried strawberries

Instructions

  • Prep grapes: Remove grapes from stems, rinse under cold water, and discard any soft or damaged ones.
  • Dry completely: Pat grapes very dry with paper towels to help coating stick.
  • Lightly mist: Place grapes in ziplock bag or bowl, lightly spray with water just to make them tacky.
  • Make coating: In a separate bowl, mix jello powder, powdered sugar, and citric acid thoroughly.
  • Coat grapes: Add coating mix to the grapes bag. Seal and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds until fully coated.
  • Freeze: Spread coated grapes onto parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they don’t touch. Freeze for 4+ hours (overnight is best).

Notes

Grapes too sour? Skip or reduce the citric acid.
Too sweet? Try using unsweetened Kool-Aid powder instead of jello.
Great project for kids—just avoid letting them handle citric acid directly.
Try wild variations like Cotton Candy, Margarita, or Fire & Ice grapes!
Best enjoyed straight from the freezer!
