Twix Ice Cream Bar
Been drooling over twix ice cream bar pics online? Sick of paying crazy prices at the store? SAME. So last summer I went on a mission to create these bad boys at home and OMG you guys… they turned out INSANE. These DIY twix ice cream bars have seriously ruined the store-bought ones for me forever. Think buttery cookie bottom, ridiculously creamy vanilla ice cream, pools of gooey caramel, and a thick chocolate shell that cracks perfectly when you bite into it. Made a batch for my sister’s birthday and I swear people were fighting over the last one!

OK But Seriously, Why Make Twix Ice Cream Bars at Home??
Store-bought twix ice cream bars always disappoint me tbh. Either the caramel’s barely there or the chocolate breaks off in one chunk or the cookie part is soggy. UGH.
When u make em yourself, u get to decide everything – double the caramel? YES PLS. Extra thick chocolate coating? OBVIOUSLY. Perfect cookie-to-ice-cream ratio? DONE.
Made these for my bestie’s cookout last month and legit had three people cornering me in the kitchen demanding the recipe. My neighbor who “never eats dessert” (whatever that means) ate TWO. Two!!!
The best part? U can customize them however u want. Dark chocolate instead of milk? Do it. Sea salt on top? Yessss. Cookie dough ice cream instead of vanilla? Mind blown. They’re actually way easier than they look too. Sorta time consuming cuz of all the freezing steps but not difficult at all. Trust.

What You’ll Need for Epic Twix Ice Cream Bars
So here’s what ur gonna need to make these amazing twix ice cream bars happen in ur kitchen. Nothing fancy I promise!
For That Yummy Cookie Bottom:
- 2 cups store-bought shortbread cookies, smashed up (I use Lorna Doone)
- 6 tbsp butter, melted (salted or unsalted both work)
- Tiny pinch salt (skip if using salted butter)
For Super Easy No-Machine Ice Cream:
- 2 cups heavy cream, cold from fridge
- 1 can (14oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (or 1 tsp vanilla bean paste if ur fancy)
- 1/4 tsp salt (sounds weird but makes it taste better)
For That Gooey Caramel Center:
- 1 jar (10oz) caramel sauce from store (or homemade if u have time)
- 1/2 tsp flaky sea salt (optional but sooo good)
For The Chocolate Magic Shell:
- 12oz chocolate (milk, dark, whatever u like)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (makes it crack perfectly when biting)

How to Actually Make These Twix Ice Cream Bars
Gonna break this down real simple so anyone can make these amazing twix ice cream bars. Not gonna lie – there’s some waiting time with all the freezing steps but the actual work is super easy.
First: Cookie Base
- Crush those cookies into dust (food processor or ziplock bag + rolling pin)
- Mix with melted butter till it looks like wet sand
- Press HARD into bottom of 8×8 pan lined with parchment
- Chill in fridge while u make ice cream
Second: Super Easy Ice Cream
- Grab cold heavy cream and whip till fluffy peaks form
- Add condensed milk, vanilla, and salt
- Keep whipping till thick (but not butter lol)
- Pour over cookie base
- Smooth top with spatula or spoon
- Cover with plastic wrap touching surface
- FREEZE OVERNIGHT (not kidding – needs to be solid)
Third: Making Those Caramel Wells
- Take pan out of freezer (ice cream should be ROCK SOLID)
- Let sit 5 mins so it’s not impossible to work with
- Use melon baller to scoop little round wells in ice cream
- Keep wells evenly spaced (think about how you’ll cut bars later)
- Don’t scoop all the way to cookie base
- Fill each well with caramel sauce
- BACK TO FREEZER for 2 hrs minimum!!
Finally: Chocolate Magic
- Cut frozen mixture into bars (warm knife helps)
- Keep extra bars in freezer while working
- Melt chocolate with coconut oil
- Let cool slightly (but still pourable)
- Working FAST, dip each bar in chocolate
- Let excess drip off
- Place on parchment paper
- Sprinkle tiny bit of salt on top if wanted
- BACK TO FREEZER to fully set (15-20 mins)

Mix It Up! Twix Ice Cream Bar Variations
Wanna get creative with ur twix ice cream bars? Here’s some ideas I’ve tried that turned out AMAZING:
Boozy Twix Ice Cream Bars – Add 2 tbsp bourbon to ice cream mixture (adults only obvs)
PB&J Twix Bars – Use strawberry preserves instead of caramel for fruit twist
Cookie Monster Twix Bars – Mix crushed oreos into ice cream before freezing
Birthday Cake Twix Bars – Add sprinkles to ice cream mixture and use white chocolate coating
Mocha Madness Twix Bars – Dissolve 1 tbsp instant coffee in 1 tbsp hot water, cool, add to ice cream
Allergy-Friendly Twix Bars – Use gluten-free cookies, dairy-free whipping cream and vegan chocolate
Minis – Cut into 1-inch squares for perfect two-bite desserts (great for parties)

Storing Your Amazing Twix Ice Cream Bars
Once ur twix ice cream bars are made, they need to stay FROZEN obvi. Here’s my storage tricks:
- Wrap each bar individually in parchment paper (not plastic wrap – sticks too much)
- Place wrapped bars in airtight container or freezer bag
- They’ll stay good for like 3-4 weeks but never last that long lol
- For best texture let them sit out exactly 4 mins before eating
- Any longer and the ice cream gets too soft
- Any less and they’re too hard to bite
Made a big batch for my mom’s birthday and we’re still enjoying them 2 weeks later!

Answers to Stuff People Ask About Twix Ice Cream Bars
What is the main ingredient in TWIX Ice Cream Bars?
Obvi the main ingredients in a twix ice cream bar are vanilla ice cream plus all the good stuff from regular Twix – cookie, caramel, and milk chocolate. But what makes homemade version SO much better is using real ingredients instead of all those preservatives and fake stuff in store brands. My homemade twix ice cream bars use actual shortbread cookies, real vanilla, and quality chocolate instead of weird substitutes.
What are the crunchy things in Twix ice cream?
That amazing crunch in twix ice cream comes from the shortbread cookie base layer! In store-bought versions they use some processed cookie crumbs engineered to stay crunchy when frozen (weird science stuff). But in my homemade twix ice cream bars we just use real shortbread cookies crushed up with butter. Somehow they stay super crunchy even frozen! Magic.
How to create your own ice cream bar?
Making ur own twix ice cream bar (or any ice cream bar) at home is actually super doable:
- Make ur base layer (cookie/brownie/whatever)
- Add ice cream layer (no-churn is easiest)
- Add fun stuff (caramel/fudge/fruit)
- Freeze solid (patience!!!)
- Cut into bars
- Dip in chocolate coating
- Freeze again
Biggest key is keeping everything SUPER cold between steps. Even put ur cutting board in freezer beforehand if possible. And work in small batches when dipping!

What is the flavor of Twix ice cream?
Classic twix ice cream bar flavor is basically vanilla ice cream, buttery shortbread, gooey caramel, and milk chocolate – all the stuff that makes original Twix candy so addictive but in frozen form! What makes it special is how all these flavors and textures work together – creamy, crunchy, chewy, and snappy all in one bite. My homemade version has WAY more flavor than store ones cuz we’re using actual quality ingredients.
Who makes Twix ice cream bar?
Mars Incorporated (same company that makes Twix candy bars) produces the official twix ice cream bars you find in stores. They basically took their super popular Twix candy and turned it into frozen treat to compete with other ice cream candy bars. But tbh once you try homemade twix ice cream bars, store-bought ones taste kinda sad. Plus when u make them yourself, YOU get to be the twix ice cream bar creator! Way more fun.
Pro Tips For Perfect Twix Ice Cream Bars
Want your twix ice cream bars to come out picture-perfect? Here’s what I learned after making these about a dozen times:
- Keep everything COLD! Freeze your pans, trays, even spatulas before using
- Use hot knife for clean cuts – dip knife in hot water, wipe dry, then slice
- Work in small batches when dipping in chocolate to prevent ice cream melting
- Don’t rush the freezing steps – patience makes perfect twix ice cream bars
- If caramel starts leaking, refreeze for 30 mins before continuing
Made these for my kid’s summer birthday party last year and they were bigger hit than the actual cake! Had three different parents texting me next day for recipe.
What makes these homemade twix ice cream bars so special is how they combine nostalgic candy bar flavors with ice cream’s cool creaminess. Plus that feeling when someone asks “where’d you buy these?” and you get to say “actually, I made them” – priceless!

Twix Ice Cream Bar Calories and Stuff
If ur counting cals, homemade twix ice cream bar calories are around 275-325 each depending how big u cut them and how thick ur chocolate coating is. Store twix ice cream bar nutrition facts usually show similar numbers but with way more chemicals and preservatives.
Making ur own twix ice cream bars means u control exactly what goes in! Use low-fat ice cream if u want, dark chocolate instead of milk, or make mini bars for smaller portions. Plus homemade just tastes wayyy better.
The Great Ice Cream Candy Bar Debate
In my house we’re always arguing about which is better – milky way vs twix ice cream bars. My husband’s team Milky Way (weirdo lol) but me and the kids are 100% twix ice cream bars with caramel all the way!
Did blind taste test with friends using store-bought ice cream candy bars plus my homemade twix version. Guess which won? Yup, homemade by a LANDSLIDE. Even my friend who works at an ice cream shop was impressed!
U just can’t beat that homemade caramel flavor and real cookie crunch. No factory twix box can compare to something made with love in ur own kitchen.
